Privacy Policy

Bookd ("we", "us") helps you search books, save a personal library, join book clubs, and share comments with spoiler controls. This policy describes what we collect and why.

Information we collect

Account data — When you sign up, our authentication provider (Clerk) processes your email address, name, and profile picture if you add one. We store a matching user record in our database.
Library & reading data — Books you save, status (want to read / reading / read), ratings, reviews, private notes, and reading progress (page or listening percent).
Club activity — Clubs you join or create, comments you post (including spoiler placement), finishes, and in-app notifications.
Book metadata — Titles, authors, covers, and descriptions from Open Library when you search or add books.
Email notifications — If enabled, we send transactional emails (e.g. new club activity) to your account email via Resend. Comment text is not included in email bodies.
Technical data — Standard server logs from our host (Vercel) may include IP address, browser type, and request timestamps for security and debugging.

How we use information

Provide and improve the Bookd service.
Authenticate you and keep your session secure.
Show club feeds, spoiler-safe comments, and reading progress.
Send optional club notification emails and in-app alerts.
Prevent abuse and fix errors.

What we share

We do not sell your personal information. We use service providers who process data on our behalf:

Clerk (authentication)
Neon / Postgres (database hosting)
Vercel (application hosting)
Resend (transactional email)
Open Library (public book metadata API)

Club comments marked as visible to the club are shown to other members of that club. Private notes and non-public visibility settings stay limited as described in the app.

Retention

We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account or ask us to delete your data, we remove or anonymize it within a reasonable period, except where we must retain records for legal or security reasons.

Your choices

Update profile details through your account settings (Clerk).
Choose comment visibility (club vs private) when posting.
Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion.

Children

Bookd is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy. We will revise the date at the top of this page. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
